My favorite way is to use a double sided tape to apply the ribbon in its spiral around the hoop. You then need to be sure that the edges are sealed either with a spiral of gaffers or vinyl. With the double sided tape you don't need the entire ribbon to have it, just as you wrap up and around the hoop place a maybe 1" or so piece of the tape on the ribbon then wrap it around. You do have the option to cover the ribbon spiral with a layer of clear vinyl before you seal the edges. I like to do this with ribbon that is very light colored or porous. it is not really to keep the ribbon on it is for protection. The same way you can cover the fancy metallic tapes -to prolong their life and beauty. some people do not even use the double sided tape they just use the edge sealing technique to keep the ribbon in place but.....I don't know .....I really like the double sided tape technique. I hope this is what you were looking for. I don't really have any secrets these are just techniques that I apply to the art of Hoop Wrapping. I don't know if you have heard of HoopCity? http://safiredance.ning.com/ It is an online community for hoopers and there are discussion forums where people share this kind of information and ask questions. It is really a beautiful and supportive community if you are interested in that sort of thing.

Hey lady! I've been hunting for hooper blogs today and stumbled across yours. Thanks for breaking down this taping technique. Your hoops are always so lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info on decorating with ribbons! This may be a crazy question, but do you know how to decorate hoops with fabric? I know I can sew blocks together into a tube but my question is, how do you close it up? Lemme know if you know or find out!
